SPANISH FORK -- Spanish Fork is tearing out 120 trees on Main Street that grounds workers say are too aggressive.

The Daily Herald reports the city is taking 120 honey locust trees out of flower beds and replacing them with chanticleer pear trees, which are less aggressive.

Building and grounds workers say the honey locusts are causing problems with sidewalks and utilities. The Herald says city crews are replacing damaged concrete and electric and water utility lines as they go.

The Adopt-a-Planter program is on hold while these trees are torn out.

Honey locust trees from Center Street to 400 North will be removed next spring so they can be part of the city's upcoming Christmas decorations.
