Paul Nelson, KSL Newsradio There's a new way to lose your money online. You can bet on whether gas prices will go up or down before the end of the year. Customers at a Salt Lake City Chevron say they would make a lot of money on this bet.
When asked to put their money where their mouth is, one customer said "it's going up." Another customer said, bluntly, "I think it's stupid. Everyone knows gas prices are going to go up."
"I've heard of people gambling on many silly things which maybe have better odds than this one does, says Utah AAA Spokeswoman Rolayne Fairclough.
The website betUS.com is listing both the rise and the fall in gas prices at five to six odds, which pretty much breaks even. Fairclough recommends you don't bet, and says you'll thank her later. "Factors just aren't even and equal so no one knows what's going to happen."
By the way, on the website you can also bet on global warming and which group will ask a public figure to resign.
