UTAH COUNTY -- The Utah Department of Transportation plans some major changes along Interstate 15 in Utah County this weekend.

The I-15 Core project will include closures in Provo, and the soon-to-open Pioneer Crossing means an overpass closure in American Fork for the next 10 days.
By Monday morning, Center Street in Provo will be much different. The street is in for some dramatic changes as part of the I-15 rebuild.
The northbound off ramps will close Saturday night at 9:00, and crews will demolish the ramp which heads into downtown Provo. By Monday morning, a new temporary ramp will be in place, but it will include a stoplight, so drivers will have to be prepared for that.
"It's going to be different there, compared to how people are used to going, and so be sure to be cautious and be cognizant of your surroundings as you're getting off," said UDOT spokesman Scott Thompson. "There will be more turn signals, and be aware things have changed -- but we're still providing access for people for where they need to go."
- The off-ramp from northbound I-15 to east Center Street will be closed
- The off-ramp from northbound I-15 to west Center Street will be closed
- The on-ramp from west Center Street to northbound I-15 will be closed
- The on-ramp from east Center Street to northbound I-15 will remain open
- Center Street under I-15 will not be impacted
The new ramps will route northbound traffic to a signalized intersection on Provo Center Street between the viaduct and I-15.
Further north in American Fork, the new diverging diamond interchange is about to open as part of Pioneer Crossing. One of the bridges is in use, but UDOT has to reconfigure the new one. It means going west over the freeway won't be an option after 8:00 Friday night until the new interchange opens.
"Most of the corridor is done," Thompson said. "They are putting in some final striping; there's some landscaping work going on, some final sound wall placement. But it's ready to be open in about 10 days."
Traffic will still be able to exit I-15 southbound and then travel east to American Fork's Main Street.
UDOT will open the new-style interchange, along with Pioneer Crossing, Aug. 23. The new corridor will stretch from the freeway to Redwood Road in Saratoga Springs.
