(Press Release)LEHI, Utah (Aug. 11, 2010) -- Construction teams on UDOT's Utah County I-15 Corridor Expansion (I-15 CORE) are scheduled to close three interchange ramps at Provo Center Street on Saturday, Aug.14 at 9 p.m. through Monday, Aug. 16 at 5:30 a.m. Crews will create a temporary configuration at the I-15 interchange that will be in place for the remainder of the construction project. The ramps that will be closed are the on-ramp from westbound Center Street to northbound I-15, the off-ramp from I-15 northbound to westbound Center Street and the northbound to eastbound flyover off-ramp onto Center Street.
Crews need to remove existing ramps over the freeway to widen the freeway by two additional lanes both northbound and southbound. To avoid a long-term closure of the interchange, temporary ramps and signals will allow access to Provo Center Street for the majority of the project until the new I-15 interchange is complete in December 2012.
During the closure, crews will restripe to shift traffic onto new ramps and turn on traffic signals that will be in place through 2012. Starting Monday, the temporary ramps will route northbound traffic to a signalized intersection on Provo Center Street between the viaduct and I-15. Motorists should be prepared for a change in traffic flow and drive with caution in this area. To minimize delays, UDOT encourages motorists to TravelWise by carpooling, telecommuting, using alternate routes and shifting travel times. The project goal is to reduce 20 percent of the current number of cars in the I-15 CORE area to reduce any additional delays due to construction.
