Sam Penrod reporting If you've driven I-15 in Utah County lately, especially at sunrise or sunset, have you wondered if you were driving in the right lane?

The problem is in the construction area where UDOT is adding a carpool lane.

To do the work, UDOT has to shift the lanes by a few feet to make room for the construction crews. But old lines and new lines are sometimes hard to tell apart, making driving confusing and sometimes even dangerous.

The lanes on I-15 in Utah County can at times require some guess work. Don't worry, it's only a temporary situation, while crews add a new lane in each direction.

Brent Wilhite, UDOT Spokesman: "We actually paint over the lane striping that was there, and shift those lanes and paint new striping. The problem is that the sun is hitting it and there is a little bit of glare. So people are seeing the glare from the old lane striping, and some people aren't sure what lanes to follow."

The glare seems to be a problem at certain times of the day and changes depending on the direction you are driving. We noticed a few cars today they seemed to be in the wrong part of a lane.

UDOT knows it is a problem and is working to fix it.

Brent Wilhite, UDOT Spokesman: "It is something we are concerned about. We want to make sure the travel is safe through the work zones."

Crews are starting to add reflector tabs in an effort to make the right stripes easier to tell apart.

Still, UDOT cautions that while the lines may be a problem, many drivers are still going way too fast through the construction area.

Brent Wilhite, UDOT Spokesman: "Any time you are in a work zone, slow down. The speed limit is 55 through Utah County on I-15. Be aware of your surroundings. That way, if somebody else isn't following the correct lane, you can adjust that and stay in the proper lane of travel."

UDOT will be shifting the lanes back where they were in the first place very soon.

In the meantime, several drivers have told us that if you look in your rear view mirror, the glare disappears and you can see if you are driving in the correct lane.
