WEST VALLEY CITY -- Firefighters responded to five different fires in West Valley City Monday afternoon.
The flames broke out near 3100 South on I-215. But after fire crews arrived, they spotted more fires near 2100 South and 1900 South.
"It's very suspicious for five fires to start on the side of the freeway. Initially we feel its intentional, but investigators are still going to figure that out," says West Valley Fire Battalion Chief Dean Williams.
Fire officials say one of the fires spread to some trees and then moved toward some businesses. They were able to contain the fire before it reached the building, but it did damage a car.
The Utah Highway Patrol shut down a section of the freeway to help keep firefighters safe.
