SALT LAKE CITY -- The Utah Transit Authority board swore in its new chairman at its monthly meeting held Friday.
Rep. Greg Hughes, R-Draper, took the seat, despite several protests because of conflicts of interest concerns.
Friday he touted the way UTA is managed and says other cities are looking to Utah for guidance as their transportation systems are cut and UTA expands.
"I just think that we might not realize sometimes how good we have it and how good this authority is run," Hughes said.
The meeting comes as UTA gets ready to implement a fuel surcharge. Starting Sunday, bus and train fares will go up as much as 16 percent. The increase will last through the end of October.
