SOUTH SALT LAKE -- A South Salt Lake couple has been arrested for the death of their 5-year-old daughter.
Police officers were called to a home at 726 W. Timbercreek Way Tuesday to find the 5-year-old girl's heart had stopped. After emergency first-responders arrived, the child was pronounced dead at the scene.
When officers saw evidence of physical trauma to the girl's body, an investigation was launched. The girl's mother, 31-year-old Angeles Cadillo-Castro, and father, 36-year-old Gerardo Jesus Espindola-Olvera, were arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on charges of felony child abuse.
Additional charges are pending the results of an autopsy by the medical examiner's office.
