SALT LAKE CITY -- A trip to the airport will cost you a little bit extra if you decide to park in the garage and walk in.
The days of parking for free for the first 30 minutes at Salt Lake International Airport are over; it will now cost $2.
"The airport is a business. This is a business decision," says airport spokeswoman Barbara Gann.
Gann says the airport offered free parking right after the 9/11 attacks so that people wouldn't continue to circle the airport.
"Since then, a Park and Wait has been built; a second lane has been built," Gann says.
She says the $2 rate is on par with other like-sized airports. While she understands this could drive people away from parking, she hopes it drives more people to the park and wait.
Airport officials say they don't know how much money will be made from the $2 increase, but they didn't want to lose any more money.
