SOUTH JORDAN -- The South Jordan City Council will tackle the issue of pet quotas Tuesday night.
The Deseret News reports current code restricts city residents to two pets per species. Some zones in the city, don't allow pets of any type.
The City Council is expected to strike down the no-pets rule. It also plans to address limiting the number of pets. Council members have differing views on that.
Councilwoman Kathie Johnson says not everyone loves pets, especially in close quarters. She says all residents need to be able to live together in harmony on the pet issue.
But Councilwoman Aleta Taylor tells the paper owning a pet is a citizen's right. She favors a proposal to eliminate the limit on the number of pets but require owners to properly care for their animals.
Councilwoman Leona Winger said she is hoping for a compromise.
The Council meets tonight at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 1600 W. Towne Center Drive.
