Randall Jeppesen, KSL NewsradioInmates at the Utah County Jail take note: An overnight stay will soon come with a charge.

It costs more than $60 a day keep an inmate in the Utah County Jail. So Sheriff's Office Sergeant Dennis Harris says inmates with misdemeanors will soon be charged $10 a day to stay. "Three months, that's an average stay." Harris says. "So you're looking at $900."

People on the street seem to think it's a good idea. They say it would be nice if some tax money could be recouped.

But one person says this could hurt families with little money and who can't afford to pay. Harris says those cases will be looked at in a case-by-case basis.
