OGDEN, Utah (AP) -- Ogden is putting a cap on the number of check-cashing companies and payday and title lenders that can operate in the city.
An ordinance adopted by the City Council Tuesday limits the number of short-term lenders to 15.
Ogden has 21 of the lenders and they will be allowed to operate, but if some close, others will not be allowed to take their place.
The ordinance also prohibits short-term loan businesses within 660 feet of a pawnbroker or a sexually oriented business.
