PROVO, Utah (AP) -- Provo Mayor John Curtis is promising an "open and transparent" hearing process before city residents see their first electricity rate increase in 22 years.
Curtis says increasing costs and the need for infrastructure improvements make utility rate increases for power, water and sewer services inevitable.
But he promises a hearing schedule that's above and beyond what's legally required.
Along with a May 18 hearing before the Municipal Council, the city plans three public meetings April 13, April 27 and April 29.
The rate increases are scheduled to go into effect in July, with the start of the new fiscal year.
