Utah gov nominates Christiansen to appeals court

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Utah Gov. Gary Herbert has nominated 3rd District Court Judge Michele Christiansen to fill a vacancy on the seven-member Utah Court of Appeals.

Former Gov. Jon Huntsman appointed Christiansen to the 3rd District Court in 2007.

Prior to joining the bench, Christiansen served as general counsel to the governor's office, executive director of the Utah Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice, and as an assistant U.S. Attorney for Utah.

The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Utah Senate.
