Tomorrow is primary election day in Utah, but in the Jordan School District, there will be a final election for members of two new school boards.
Salt Lake County Clerk Sherrie Swensen says whoever wins tomorrow will be the new school board members. The boards will be created to accommodate the splitting up of the Jordan School District.
The vote will create a school board for each of the districts that will be created when the Jordan district splits next year. The existing school board also will stay in place until next July, so for a time, three school boards will be operational.
Election officials are concerned some people may be scared away from the polls, thinking they may have to declare a party affiliation. For the Jordan school issue, though, that is not the case.
There's also some concern in the Jordan School District that people will overlook tomorrow's election. "What people aren't realizing is this is a special election for the Jordan east and west board members. And there isn't a provision in the state law for a primary for those races," Swensen said.
