SALT LAKE CITY -- Family history buffs will be all over Salt Lake City starting April 26 and filling The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' Family History Library. Jan Alpert, with the National Genealogical Society, can't rave enough about it.

"The advantage of working in the Family History Library is you could be working in Utah today, you find your family came from Missouri, and you're pulling those microfilms and doing that research this afternoon," she says.

Alpert says the society picked Salt Lake at the same time as three other family history conferences to make it easier for everybody. She says the conference is already on pace to have double the attendance of last year's meeting in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Alpert says new family history shows on television have also increased interest. She teaches classes and tells students it's not as easy as it looks on TV, but it's much easier than it used to be.

"I'm so jealous because I started 30 years ago before computers, and you have the opportunity to find in five years what it took me 30 years to find," she tells her students.

Alpert says people can register for all week or just a day at a time. They will also have free vendor exhibits and a free class for librarians. Click here for more on that.

The other conferences running at the same time include two BYU family history conferences and a FamilySearch conference. Click here for details.
