TOOELE — Mosquitoes from the Benson Mill area in Stansbury Park tested positive for West Nile virus, Tooele County officials said Monday.

The Tooele Valley Mosquito Abatement District was recently informed by the Utah State Public Health Laboratory of three mosquito pools (samples) testing positive, a post on the district's Facebook page said.

Recently, mosquitoes tested positive for West Nile virus in Cache County. Last week, Utah County Health Department officials confirmed the first human case of West Nile virus in the state.

Tooele Valley Mosquito Abatement District officials urged the public to take proper precautions when going outside after dusk.

"Be sure to wear long sleeve shirts and pants. Mosquito Repellent with DEET or Picaridin is also a great way to avoid mosquito bites," officials said.
