HYRUM, Cache County — Mosquitoes found near Hyrum State Park have tested positive for West Nile virus, according to city officials.
The virus has also been found in numerous areas throughout the state, including Box Elder, Davis, Tooele and Weber counties, as well as in Benson, Magna and the Salt Lake area, according to the Cache Mosquito Abatement District.
The mosquitoes that tested positive for the virus in Cache County were trapped on Aug. 7, officials said.
Cache County officials will begin spraying for mosquitoes and administering larvacide in affected areas twice a week.
People who are outdoors between dusk and dawn are advised to wear long sleeves and pants and use insect repellent, officials said.
Adults should use repellent containing up to 35 percent DEET, and children between 2 months and 12 years should use repellent with no more than 10 percent DEET, according to Cache Mosquito Abatement District. Infants under 2 months should not use repellent with DEET.
