CORAL PINK SAND DUNES STATE PARK — A 13-year-old boy is dead after an ATV accident in Kane County Thursday evening, officials said.

The teen was riding a four-wheeler with family and friends at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park when he went over a sand dune and tumbled down the other side, sustaining multiple injuries, according to Utah State Parks OHV program coordinator Chris Haller. The teen was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

The teen's family rushed him to the park's visitor center where medical personnel performed CPR, and a medical helicopter was dispatched to the scene.

The boy was pronounced dead, however, as the helicopter landed.

The boy's identity has not yet been released. The accident is currently under investigation by the Utah Division of Parks and Recreation.

"We would like to remind everyone to please practice safe riding procedures when out recreating this season," Haller said in an emailed statement.
