SALT LAKE CITY — A man accused of firing at police during a chase on I-15 that resulted in two other vehicles being hit by gunfire was released from the hospital and booked into Salt Lake County Jail on Saturday.
Arturo Gallemore-Jimenez, 37, was booked on suspicion of three counts of attempted aggravated murder, a first-degree felony, and one count each of possession of a firearm by a restricted person and failure to stop at the command of an officer, both third-degree felonies, and has had a cash-only bail set at $1 million, according to a statement from Sgt. Spencer Cannon of the Utah County Sheriff's Office.
He is being held in Salt Lake County because the shooting involved Utah County deputies, Cannon said.
Police say on Wednesday, following a report of gunfire at a Nephi gas station, Gallemore-Jimenez exchanged gunfire with officers after they attempted to stop him on I-15 between Spanish Fork and Springville. At the time, a man pulled off the side of the freeway about 500 yards from the incident was shot in the shoulder, though police are still working to determine who fired the shot that hit him.

The Utah County Sheriff's Office says a 37-year-old man injured by police during a shootout was heavily armed and was wearing body armor.Police pursued Gallemore-Jimenez in his vehicle for nine miles following that incident, and had another exchange of gunfire after he crashed his car near the University Parkway exit.
During this second exchange, police say a shot fired by Gallemore-Jimenez went through the window of a truck occupied by a family of six, narrowly missing a 4-year-old boy seated in the back of the vehicle.
After his arrest, Gallemore-Jimenez was transported to Utah Valley Hospital were he was treated for gunshot wounds to his neck and right forearm. Police say the man was found to be heavily armed and wearing body armor.
The bystander was treated and released on the night of the incident.
Gallemore-Jimenez is also a "person of interest" in a Colorado shooting last Tuesday that left one man injured, according to police.
