SODA SPRINGS, Idaho — A total of 55 separate earthquakes have struck southeast Idaho so far since the first shakes started just before 6 p.m. Saturday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The first quake was a 4.3-magnitude that hit at about 5:55 p.m., followed by a 5.3-magnitude shake about a minute later. The earthquakes struck in an area about 10 miles east of Soda Springs.
About ten minutes after the first two quakes, weaker aftershocks started striking. Quakes between magnitudes of 2 and 4 continued throughout much of the night and into Sunday morning, according to USGS.

At about 10:49 a.m. Sunday, a 4.3-magnitude quake struck — the strongest shake since the first two on Saturday evening. About an hour later, at 11:41 a.m., a 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck.
Soda Springs resident Slye Gentle was working at the Maverik station in town on Saturday night when the first earthquake struck. He said the windows at the front of the store started shaking, and you could definitely feel the movement.
“I’ve never felt anything like that before, as far as earthquakes, before in my life,” Gentle said. “So yeah it was way cool.”
