SALT LAKE CITY — A woman is in the hospital with critical injuries after she was shot during an attempted robbery in a Salt Lake sandwich shop, authorities said.
The shooting victim is expected to recover, Salt Lake City Police Lt. Justin Hudson said.
On Tuesday, police received a call at 6:07 p.m. reporting a robbery at Quiznos, 1775 S. 4130 West, a largely industrial area.
When they got there, witnesses told them several gunshots had been fired.
No customers were inside at the time of the shooting, Hudson said. One person came in afterward and helped the woman, who is in her 30s, to safety, he said.
"We're trying to put everything together. We're not sure who's a suspect and who's not a suspect," Hudson said.
Charlene Quast, who has managed the Quiznos for six years, told KSL nothing like this has ever happened, especially on a day she wasn't there.
"I was at home and I got a phone call from one of my gals saying, 'We just got robbed,'" she said. "For this to happen is really totally blowing my mind away."

Hudson's agency believes two men were involved in the shooting but drove off before officers arrived.
"They came in under the ruse of possible customers and then they escalated from there," Hudson said.
Detectives were reviewing surveillance footage Tuesday night and interviewing people who were nearby.
