SALT LAKE CITY — Stepping into the Salt Lake Comic Con office in Salt Lake City is a little like stepping into an alternate reality.
It's a reality Kevyn feels pretty comfortable exploring. "I really like Marvel stuff," he said.
On Wednesday, Kevyn was the office guest and received the VIP treatment.
"Hi, nice to meet you," he said as he introduced himself to a man in an Ironman costume.
Meeting superhero characters means a bit more to Kevyn than it would another kid because he looks up to them and what they stand for.
"I especially like Captain America, Iron Man and Thor," he said.
Kevyn doesn't have many role models these days. "My mom and dad don't care about me because if they did, they would've stayed," he said.
Kevyn has been in foster care for about a year.
"I'm sick and tired of it," he said. "It's been rough."
It's been long enough to know he wants out and short enough that he still remembers the sting of entering state custody.
"It's just like, no one is really caring," he said.
Kevyn says talking about it never gets easier, but he knows he has to be brave. He hopes that his reality right now won't last forever.
"No matter what it takes, I'm going to be the only person that I know I can be," he said.
Every child deserves a hero. Kevyn is waiting for his to come and get him.
"I know there are families out there that really care and want to adopt someone," he said.
