TAYLORSVILLE — Unified police were looking Tuesday for two men who they say broke into a house, tied up two occupants and stole a small amount of drugs and money.
Officers were called just before 2 a.m. to 5084 S. 3200 West. Two men wearing hoodies, masks, gloves and carrying black handguns entered the residence through a side door, said Unified Police Lt. Brian Lohrke. It was not immediately known whether the intruders forced entry or found an open door.
Investigators do not believe it was a random home invasion incident because once inside, the intruders asked for one of the roommates by name, Lohrke said. That roommate wasn't at home. The men then used zip ties to bind the two people who were home and had them point out where the roommate's room was.
The intruders took a small amount of cash and marijuana and ran off. Police K-9s were able to pick up a scent and follow it for a little bit until it ended near a road. Detectives believe the men may have gotten into a car at that point, Lohrke said.
In 2012, detectives served a search warrant at the same home and seized 16 pounds of marijuana and some cash. The same people still live in the house, according to Lohrke.
Editor's note: It was originally reported that the intruders stole narcotics but police later learned it was marijuana.
