THE OPEN ROAD — With the release of "Fate of the Furious," the eighth installment in "The Fast and the Furious" franchise, we felt like it was a perfect time to go through and rank all eight movies from worst to best. Buckle in.

8. "2 Fast 2 Furious" (2003)

Somehow the franchise survived after this second installment. "2 Fast 2 Furious" felt like a made-for-TV movie. It is also the only one in the franchise that doesn't have Vin Diesel in it (maybe that is a good thing, though.) It is also the most forgettable. Even Paul Walker looks very disinterested to be in it.

7. "Fast & Furious" (2009)

There were some pretty high expectations for this film. It was the return of Dom (Diesel) and Brian (Walker) to the franchise. For once though, the plot got in the way of the action and car races. It was a nice attempt to reboot the franchise, but they would have to wait until "Fast Five" to get the energy the franchise needed.

6. "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift" (2006)

This installment was originally going to go straight to DVD. Writer Chris Morgan convinced the studio that a straight-to-DVD movie would kill the franchise. He then proposed his idea about "Tokyo Drift," and they threw more resources behind the movie.

This installment does lack the familiar faces from the franchise, besides a cameo by Diesel. But some of the drifting scenes were fun to watch and it was a step up from "2 Fast 2 Furious."

5. "The Fast and the Furious" (2001)

This was the movie that started it all. It is kind of weird to go back and watch this film, especially seeing where the franchise is now. This installment pretty much steals the plot of "Point Break" and applies it street racing. Somehow behind all the bad acting and more simplistic action scenes, it still works and is a fun and entertaining film.

Everything about “The Fate of the Furious” is crazy. It is crazy fun, crazy stupid and just plain crazy.

As detailed in my review of "The Fate of the Furious," this installment is a fun continuation of the franchise. The movie does have its flaws and includes some stunts that are so far-fetched they will make you roll your eyes, but overall it is a pretty solid entertaining movie.

3. "Fast & Furious 6" (2013)

Serving more as the bridge between "Fast Five" and "Furious 7," this movie to me is a lot like "The Fate of the Furious"— there is just enough in it to make it an entertaining movie. It has everything you would want in a Fast And Furious movie, it just gets overshadowed by the top two in the franchise.

2. "Fast Five" (2011)

Let the debate begin. There will be plenty that disagree with this, and I feel like these last two are really close to ranking at the top of the list. "Fast Five" launched this franchise into a whole new atmosphere. It was a shot of adrenaline that was desperately needed.

Taking the heist approach instead of focusing on street racing was a brilliant move. The addition of Dwayne Johnson also helped. Even people who were not fans of the previous films seemed to find this an awesome action flick.

1. "Furious 7" (2015)

I feel this movie is the best for a few reasons. The pacing was brilliant. James Wan, who I feel is one of the best directors in the game right now, shot what I think is the best action scenes in the franchise. A movie that could have been overshadowed by the unexpected death of Paul Walker, found a way to pay homage to the star by providing what I feel is the best movie in the franchise. Not to mention, it made over $1.5 billion worldwide.
