SALT LAKE CITY — Strong southern winds are expected to hinder traffic in Utah's western valleys until late Tuesday night, authorities said.
The National Weather Service of Salt Lake City issued an urgent wind advisory Monday that will remain in effect until 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Southern winds are blowing in at 25 to 35 mph with gusts exceeding 50 mph and affecting the western valleys of Utah, including the Salt Lake and Tooele Valleys, the Great Salt Lake Desert and Mountains, West Central Utah and Southwest Utah.
Affected cities include Salt Lake City, Tooele, Wendover, Snowville, Delta, Fillmore, Beaver, Cedar City and Milford.
The NWS expects the strong winds to continue until late Tuesday evening and urges drivers to remain cautious, especially those on "east-west oriented routes," including I-80 across northwest Utah and Highway 50 across west central Utah.
Light-weight and high-profile vehicles should exercise special caution and be wary of strong crosswinds, authorities said.
