SALT LAKE CITY — An attempted aggravated murder charge was filed Tuesday against a Salt Lake City man who remains at large after allegedly trying to run over a police officer with his vehicle.

Christopher John McMillan, 43, is charged in 3rd District Court with the first-degree felony, along with third-degree felony failure to respond to an officer's signal to stop and class B misdemeanor reckless driving.

McMillan allegedly swerved toward a West Valley City police officer as the man was laying down tire spikes on state Route 201 at 8400 West.

The officer "had to move behind his vehicle to avoid being hit by McMillan," charges state.

McMillan allegedly fled officers after being stopped near S.R. 201 and 7400 West a short time earlier. Two women who were in the vehicle with him defied officer's orders and got out of McMillan's vehicle, according to court documents, before he sped away.

McMillan continued to elude police "at speeds as high as 100 mph," charges state. He later allegedly crashed into a Unified police vehicle at 8600 West and 2700 South and continued driving.

Police are currently trying to locate McMillan, who they say escaped in a 1992 white Lexus 400. Before being pursued by police Saturday, the felony probation fugitive allegedly cut off his ankle monitor on Feb. 10.

McMillan is also wanted on charges of aggravated assault and felony discharge of a firearm in connection with an October shooting that left his brother with a wound in his foot. His criminal history in Utah dates back to 1999.

Anyone who knows of McMillan's whereabouts or has information in the case is asked to call West Valley police at 801-840-4000.
