MIDVALE — A man whom police considered to be "armed and dangerous" was arrested Saturday in connection with various crimes, including a shooting in East Millcreek two weeks ago.

Investigators received a tip Saturday night that Christopher John McMillan, 43, was at a motel near 400 West and 7200 South, said Unified Police Sgt. Jared Richardson. Police had been looking for McMillan since Oct. 30 when he got into a fight with his brother and allegedly shot the brother in the foot.

The incident prompted a SWAT team to surround the apartment at 1975 E. Millbrook Dr. (3465 South), but investigators did not find anyone inside. Officers later tracked down McMillan's brother and learned that McMillan apparently called his mother after the altercation and told her he was on a "suicide mission." The brother also claimed McMillan was high on meth and bath salts at the time and told him he was "going to kill someone," according to Unified police.

Because of that, detectives were concerned about the safety of Christopher McMillan's wife, who had also been missing since the shooting. Detectives were unsure if she had run off with her husband or if she was injured, Richardson said.

Saturday night, officers found the couple together in the motel room.

"It appears she knew he was wanted and she was there on her own free will," Richardson said.

Officers from the Salt Lake Metro Gang Unit, Salt Lake City Gang Unit and West Valley police surrounded that motel before calling out to McMillan to surrender, Richardson said.

"He decided he wanted to try and flee so he tried to kick in the adjoining doors to the other room," the sergeant said, adding that he surrendered after failing to kick in the door.
