SALT LAKE CITY -- Elder Russell M. Nelson, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and his wife are wrapping up what turned into a dangerous weekend in Mozambique.
As KSL first reported Saturday, Elder Nelson and Sister Wendy Nelson were in the capital city, Maputo, for weekend meetings with Church leaders. Friday evening, armed assailants broke into a home where they were having dinner with mission president Elder Blair Packard and his wife, Cindy.
The assailants attacked and robbed them. Sister Packard's arm was broken, and the others received some cuts and bruises.
Despite the attack, the Church said the Nelsons chose to finish out their weekend assignments there. They'll return home to Salt Lake this week.
The U.S. State Department Web site advises Americans traveling to Mozambique to be cautious. It says the most common crimes against American visitors include muggings and carjackings.
