PROVO — A man currently facing federal charges in Oregon may soon face additional charges in Utah after police found multiple rifles, drugs and a “booby trap” in his Provo residence, according to investigators.
Jeremy David Croskey, 46, was recently indicted in U.S. District Court in Oregon of production of child pornography and transportation of child pornography. Croskey, who is from Oregon but was living in Provo at the time of his arrest, was extradited to Oregon after the case was filed.
According to charging documents, police in Oregon were investigating sex offenses against three potential juvenile victims. Croskey is also accused of providing “alcohol and drugs to (victim 1) and her friends, such as morphine pills, marijuana and mushrooms.”
As part of the investigation into the case, a search warrant was served in October on Croskey’s Provo house near 800 West and 1300 South. Police officers and federal agents “found a large quantity of marijuana, marijuana paraphernalia, firearms, ammunition and other firearms accessories,” according to the warrant affidavit.
In addition, investigators found a rodent trap that had been modified “with a fishing line tied to it” that when tripped, was set up to fire a round from another room through a wall, the warrant states.
As of Monday, Provo police said they weren’t sure what the purpose of the device was. In the return to the search warrant, the modified rat trap is listed as a “booby trap.”
“This device was active at the time that the warrant was served. Also located during the search was a large gallon sized bottle of chloroform,” according to the warrant.
Other items seized from the residence were eight rifles and a handgun, including at AK-47 and a KBI SKS rifle, marijuana and psychedelic mushrooms.
A spokeswoman for Provo police said state charges would be screened with the Utah County Attorney’s Office.
