SALT LAKE CITY — A man involved in several burglaries was arrested after someone recognized him from video surveillance and alerted police.
Salt Lake City Police detective Dennis McGowan said officers had been investigating several burglaries to downtown Salt Lake City businesses. The burglaries all had a common method of entry, involving a rock being thrown through the window of the businesses.
McGowan said police had released video surveillance of the most recent burglary in the the hopes that the public could identify the man. A member of the community called in a tip Thursday, identifying Michael White as the man in the video.
"Someone in the community was alert enough to see that video, recognize that person and that's who called us," McGowan said. "Subsequently, we were able to make the arrest. All the credit goes to someone in the community who saw it and told us."
Police met with White and after further investigation, he was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail in connection with burglary, criminal damage to property and theft.
McGowan said that White had been involved in at least four burglaries in the downtown area.
