NEW YORK (AP) — Musician Jeremy Brown, a guitarist for Scott Weiland & the Wildabouts, died a day before the release of the band's debut album. He was 34 years old.

Publicist Diana Baron didn't give a reason for Brown's death at his home in Venice, California, on Monday. The band's album, "Blaster," was released on Tuesday.

Weiland, the former frontman for Stone Temple Pilots, posted a statement on Facebook honoring his friend and collaborator, whom he met in 2008. He said he grew concerned when Brown didn't show up for a rehearsal for their album release show on Monday.

"I am in shock right now. ... It is a terrible loss that goes beyond words," Weiland wrote. "He is one of my best friends, a truest friend and one of the most gifted guitar players that I've ever known. A true genius. It's impossible to explain how much he will be missed and what a hole this will leave in our hearts."

The band recently performed at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas. Its website lists more than 20 concerts for the next two months.

Scott Weiland & the Wildabouts also includes bassist Tommy Black and drummer Dan Thompson.

Brown, who was born in California, is survived by his wife, two sisters and his mother.
