THE INTERNET — There are a few options for your Thanksgiving weekend at the theater, but if it were my money, I’d be spending it on “Ralph Breaks the Internet.”

The sequel to “Wreck-It Ralph” is hilarious and heartwarming and might be my favorite family film of 2018. I think the filmmakers really outdid themselves with this sequel and I’m excited for audiences to start seeing it.

In the movie, it’s been six years since the first film and the characters are living happily in this new world where they visit other games.

Ralph (John C. Reilly) and Venellope (Sarah Silverman) are still best buds, but an accident forces them to take a trip into the newly connected Internet. The set up for their journey is smart and the character progression the writers have created is both believable and intriguing.

Here is why “Ralph Breaks the Internet” should be your go-to this holiday weekend:

It's hilarious

I thought “Wreck-It Ralph” was a big surprise for me when it released in 2012. The characters were fun, the story compelling and the jokes constant. Reilly was the perfect Ralph and Silverman was born to be Vanellope.

When I heard there would be a sequel, I was skeptical about how it would live up to the first one and where they were going to take the story. It turns out my fears were a waste of time.

In the sequel, the characters are a blast, the story is engaging, and the jokes are both constant and hilarious. I found myself laughing out loud on multiple occasions and actually started crying from laughter in one particular scene. I don’t want to spoil any surprises, but know that there is a musical number that had me rolling in the aisles.

Reilly and Silverman are brilliant in their roles once again and small parts from Alan Tudyk and Bill Hader are highlights in an already bright film. I know it’s a family comedy, but “Ralph Breaks the Internet” may be the funniest movie I’ve seen in 2018.

It's beautiful

It should be obvious at this point with Disney Animation involved, but “Ralph Breaks the Internet” is beautiful.

I can only imagine what Walt Disney would think if he could see what animation has come to today. The world inside “Ralph Breaks the Internet” is mesmerizing. The colors, the construction and the immensity will leave you awestruck.

In 2017’s “Coco,” there was a moment when Miguel arrives in the spirit world and the animation takes your breath away with the colors and attention to detail. It’s not quite as impressive as that, but when Ralph and Venellope arrive at the Internet, you get a similar feeling.

It’s hard to wrap your brain around a team creating every intricate detail seen on screen, and truth be told, it would take numerous viewings to catch all of the details.

“Ralph Breaks the Internet” will overload your senses with its beautiful and detailed scenery.

The movie is clever

The writers, animators and directors of “Ralph Breaks the Internet” have to be some of the most clever people on the planet because the movie is going to be one of the most clever films you’ve ever seen.

The way they visualize the Internet and its different areas, pitfalls and websites left me shaking my head at how they came up with all of this.

I don’t want to give anything away because I want you to experience it the way I did, but the set up is truly brilliant and I’ll never look at a pop-up ad the same way.

Conclusion

I haven’t stopped thinking about “Ralph Breaks the Internet” since I saw it, and I haven’t stopped recommending it either. For me, I enjoyed this better than the original and I’m looking forward to making another trip to the theater to see it again.

“Ralph Breaks the Internet” is rated PG for some action and rude humor.
