SALT LAKE CITY — A previously convicted sex offender will spend more than 27 years behind bars for taking and sharing sexually explicit photos of children.

A U.S. District judge sentenced Donald Ray Fritcher, of Salt Lake City, to 330 months in federal prison after he pleaded guilty to distribution of child pornography. Judge Dale Kimball also placed him on probation for life after he is released from prison. There is no parole in the federal criminal justice system.

Fritcher, 36, admitted that between July 2015 and April 2016, through a file sharing program, he shared images and videos of child pornography, including prepubescent and minor children posing in various stages of undress and in sexually explicit poses.

Fritcher had more than 600 images and videos in his possession, including pictures he took of two children.

A registered sex offender in Utah, Fritcher has two previous convictions for attempted sex abuse of a child. The pictures of the two children were taken after his convictions in state court, according to the indictment.
