ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) - Lee Warren, known as "The Flag Man" for passing out more than 200,000 American flag pins around St. George over the last 20 years, has died at the age of 96.

Friend Bill Toole of American Legion Post 90 says the first time he met Warren, he immediately received a flag pin, Warren's trademark gift to almost everyone he met.

Toole told The Spectrum of St. George that Warren had "a red, white and blue stripe running through his entire life."

In a July 2013 interview, Warren said he realized "the country goes through its ups and down," but he was a "loyal patriot" who still stood by America.

Warren, who died Wednesday, was a Pearl Harbor survivor who served in the Navy.

A Mass will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at St. George Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Tonaquint Cemetery.
