SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Transit Authority is about to embark on a year-long experiment allowing free long-term parking at some of its lots.
The change comes in response to public feedback and complaints from air travelers. It's been a rule with UTA that drivers can't park in its lots for longer than 24 hours.
Beginning July 1, UTA riders can park their cars for an unlimited amount of time at most TRAX and FrontRunner lots.
The program also eliminates the current parking fee requirement at the Draper and Jordan Valley stations. The change will make it easier for patrons to park their cars and connect to Salt Lake City International Airport for out-of-town travel, UTA officials said.
The pilot program won't go into effect for all lots due to zoning ordinances in place and already crowded lots that allow for long-term parking.
