LOGAN — A man was killed late Monday night when his speeding car flew off a road in Logan. Police said he was traveling way too fast for the 25-mph speed limit.
The 24-year-old Salt Lake City man was driving on 1500 North near 1400 East in Logan around 11 p.m. Monday when he lost control of his car.
"Officers responded to the scene. They found a Subaru that had exited the road, vaulted a short distance and then rolled several times," said Asst. Chief Jeff Curtis of the Logan Police Department.
The 24-year-old was thrown from the car and his body was found 100 to 150 feet away.
Curtis said the main factor in the crash apparently was excessive speed. Witnesses said they knew the car was traveling too fast for the turn in the road. They watched it vault off the side of the road, unable to make the sharp curve.
The Subaru rolled multiple times, end over end or bumper to bumper, which police said is typical only with excessive speed and, in this case, a hill.
Investigators are trying to determine exactly how fast the car was going. Police will also look at whether other distractions played a role, like texting, or drugs or alcohol, and whether a seat belt was used. They plan to comb the scene again to make sure they didn't miss any evidence.
Police believe the 24-year-old was the only occupant in the vehicle. His name has not yet been released.
