THE QUIRE — KSL.com exists in a state that is lousy with choirs.

In fact, Utah is home to arguably the most famous choir in the world, none other than that wee institution called the Mormon Tabernacle Choir (MoTab).

The bread and butter for MoTab is, of course, songs from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' hymnbook. But that hasn’t stopped the choir from singing dozens of songs from musicals.

The musical songs chosen by current and past choir directors are generally from the inspirational aspects of many musicals — songs that talk of hope, and community, and family, and a fighting spirit. Basically we won’t hear the MoTab singing “Greased Lightning” or “Time Warp.”

But that doesn’t stop other wholesome choirs from giving it their best go.

Choir! Choir! Choir! is just such a choir. They take “You’re the One that I Want” from the slightly irreverent musical, “Grease,” and instantly give the whole musical a little more class.

In the video, you’ll see the choir members of many ilks and ages bopping along and having a great time as their chills are multiplying. They are, however, not losing control. Well, unless you count the awkward camera looks factor.

The cool thing about this choir is that it’s a one-night only deal. At each event, everyone gets music at the door, the choir learns the song in a short time, and then they perform for the camera. Then the group disbands and disappears into the night without a trace.*

According to their website, Choir! Choir! Choir! holds twice-weekly events in Toronto, but they also travel across North America to create temporary community choirs. They describe their events as “equal parts singing, comedy, and community-building.”

*Detail added for drama, and may not be precisely true.
