MOUNTAIN GREEN, Morgan County — One man is dead after a Friday afternoon motorcycle crash in which he was driving at an extremely high speed, officials said.

The crash took place about 5:15 p.m. on the eastbound side of I-84 at milepost 95, near Mountain Green in Morgan County, Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Andrew Battenfield said.

Chad David Whittle, 46, was driving at a high speed and went off the left side of the roadway, where he collided with a cable barrier, according to Battenfield. Whittle was then separated from the bike, and he and the bike traveled across both westbound lanes of the interstate, Battenfield said.

Whittle and the bike then collided with a k-rail barrier, and then they traveled again for a substantial distance, Battenfield said.

Whittle died at the scene, UHP officials said on the agency's website.

Alcohol and speed are considered factors in the crash, Battenfield said. Whittle was wearing a helmet during the crash, Battenfield added.
