SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Transit Authority wants to hear from you regarding public transportation needs around the Point of the Mountain.

UTA officials, along with other partners, are conducting a transit study and held an open house Thursday at American Preparatory Academy in Draper.

“We haven’t identified any mode of transportation – any type of system,” said UTA spokesperson Carl Arky. “We don’t have the plan. We are asking the public: Please help us help you.”

When it comes to connecting Salt Lake County to Utah County, UTA wants to meet the needs of the public. The year-long study will help authorities draft a plan that makes sense. The public is urged to give feedback on a possible corridor that will connect the prison site to of the Mountain to the Silicon Slopes.

The Point of the Mountain Commission, established by the Utah Legislature, got the ball rolling on the study. It’s now UTA’s responsibility to finish it.

Utah Department of Transportation and surrounding cities such as Draper, Bluffdale and Lehi are all stakeholders in the project.

“Whatever plan we come up with, I will say this: It’s going to have to address the existing prison site and how we connect to that existing prison site,” Arky said. “How that connects to either buses or the Blue Line or FrontRunner because obviously that existing prison site is going to be a major area of development.”

UTA said developing a plan that will improve quality of life for years to come is key.
