SALT LAKE CITY — A pedestrian died when he was hit by a FrontRunner train at the Orem Central Station early Thursday morning, officials said.
Based on security video from the area, it appears two people were crossing the tracks to get onto the platform about 4:50 a.m., Utah Transit Authority spokesman Carl Arky said. As the train approached the station, one person got out of the way but the second person — a man — did not appear to look up and was hit by the train.
The name of the deceased has not been released.
The train was traveling about 15 to 20 mph when it hit the man, Arky said.
A bus bridge was in place but has since been canceled.
FR Update 6:15 am: All trains have resumed their regular schedules and are proceeding normally, with minor delays of less than 10 minutes through Orem in either direction.
