PANGUITCH — A woman has died following a Wednesday night crash near Panguitch that left two other individuals in critical condition.

The woman, Tong Xian He, 72, from Jin Zhong, China, was a passenger in a black Nissan Altima that was “sideways in the roadway” on U.S. 89 just south of Panguitch, according to Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Nick Street. The Altima, which was turning around on the highway, was struck broadside on the passenger side of the vehicle by a southbound white Nissan Pathfinder, officials said in a statement on the Department of Public Safety website.

Two other individuals inside the Altima were airlifted from Garfield Memorial Hospital to Dixie Regional Medical Center in critical condition Wednesday, troopers said; however, there was no update to their condition as of Thursday morning.

Troopers said Wednesday night that there were five individuals in the Pathfinder, but there were no updates Thursday as to whether any of them were injured in the crash.
