SALT LAKE CITY — Jimmy Osmond, at 55 the youngest of the Utah-based entertainment family, suffered a stroke while performing in a play in Birmingham, England, last week, his family has confirmed.

He is recovering in England with his wife, Michelle.

News of the stroke was first reported by the BBC and other British news organizations. Jimmy Osmond was in the cast of “Peter Pan,” playing the Captain Hook character, when he felt discomfort during Thursday's performance at the Birmingham Hippodrome. After the show, he was driven to the hospital where he was diagnosed with having a stroke.

“He is grateful for all the well wishes and will be taking time out in the new year,” a family spokesman reported.

Osmond, who has a home in Provo, also suffered a mini-stroke in 2004.
