THE LIVING ROOM — It all started in China.
No, we’re not talking about the invention of fireworks, paper, or movable type. We’re talking about the latest video meme to absolutely take the world by storm. The concept is simple: Get four generations in one room with a simple call-and- answer mechanism. Call out “mama,” and mama appears.
Right about now you might be asking, “Sure, that sounds sort of special for that family to have four generations in one room, but why should I or the world care?”
The thing is, you will care. And I don’t have adequate words to tell you why, but I will try and help by detailing my step-by-step reaction.
- Well, I guess that’s sort of sweet.
- Oh look, they’re having so much fun. What is this warm feeling in my chest?
- Look at grandma! She is so cute and so happy!
- They’re all giggling, and now I’m giggling. Why am I giggling?
- Oh look, more people made videos!
- (Laughs out loud during each successive video and maybe gets a little teary as I contemplate the whole meaning of family and life.)
