WEST VALLEY CITY — A man was killed early Sunday morning after apparently getting hit by a vehicle, police said.
A person reported they saw what they believed was a deceased man on the side of the road about 1 a.m. near 6750 W. South Frontage Road, according to West Valley Police Lt. Jeff Conger.
Officers and medical personnel arrived at the scene and confirmed the man was dead.
"From all indications of the position of his body and some evidence on scene, it looked like he had been hit by a car," Conger said.
Police closed the intersection for a short time as they investigated and gathered evidence.
About one hour prior, police received reports of an intoxicated man in the area who may have been wandering in traffic, Conger said.
Officers searched the area at the time but did not find the man, Conger added. Police are unsure whether it was the same man who was hit by a car.
Police are working to identify the deceased man who they described as a Hispanic male between 25-30 years old, approximately 5-foot-5 with a goatee, Conger said.
Based on evidence gathered at the scene police believe a passenger van may have been involved in the auto-pedestrian crash. Authorities are searching for a 1992-2008 Ford Econoline with possible damage to the front passenger headlight, Conger said.
