STREAMTOWN — Welcome to another edition of, “What Should I Watch?” Well, that’s not what this article is actually called, but it may as well be. We have an insane amount of entertainment at our fingertips at basically any given moment, but with all those titles what’s actually worth watching?
While I have no doubt our tastes vary, I’m still going to throw out a few titles for you that are new to streaming services in September in hopes of helping you avoid hours of just browsing selections.
Netflix
Sept. 1
“Fracture”
Here is a movie that’s really well done, incredibly acted and tense from start to finish. "Fracture" is a 2007 film that stars Ryan Gosling and Anthony Hopkins in a cat and mouse thriller filled with twists and turns.
The film isn’t as well known as I think it should be and is a real treat for fans of the genre.
“Fracture” is rated R for language and some violent content.
“Gone Baby Gone”
Despite a few really bad movies, Ben Affleck is a good actor. But his talent behind the camera as a director may eclipse his acting abilities. His first foray into directing was with 2007’s “Gone Baby Gone.”
The movie stars his brother, Casey Affleck, as a private investigator in Boston searching for a missing child. The movie will mess with your head and question what’s truly right and wrong. The film is expertly made and will stick with you for days after you see it. Be warned, this movie is filled with language and is not for all audiences.
“Gone Baby Gone” is rated R for drug content, violence and pervasive language.
Sept. 19
“Beauty and the Beast” (2017)
Not sure much needs to be said about this one. The live-action version of “Beauty and the Beast” did gang busters at the box office this year and enchanted audiences across the globe. Odds are you already bought this movie for your kids, but if you haven’t, you can sit down with the family starting Sept. 19 and watch it one evening.
Personally, I still prefer the original animated version, but I can’t deny that a certain level of magic accompanies this new take.

“The Magic School Bus Rides Again” Season 1
“The Magic School Bus” is a beloved favorite and my kids have seen virtually every episode. The show is entertaining and educational, so it’s a dream for parents and kids. And let’s be honest, I’ve been sucked into watching several episodes myself.
The classic cartoon now has a modern update and is headed back to Netflix. SNL member Kate McKinnon now voices Ms. Frizzle and the trailers seem to promise more fun adventures with the Frizz and her amazing bus.

Sept. 1
“The Pelican Brief”
John Grisham is the king of courtroom thrillers and many of his books have actually turned into some really great movies. One of the best is now on Hulu, “The Pelican Brief.”
The 1993 film stars Denzel Washington and Julia Roberts as they uncover a giant conspiracy and find themselves in danger. I know my plot description there is terrible, but believe me when I say the movie is worth a watch. It has its issues and isn’t either actors' best film, but it is entertaining and tense.
Sept. 9
“The Magnificent Seven”
Speaking of Denzel Washington, let’s add another one of his films to the list. The 2016 remake of “The Magnificent Seven” is now on Hulu and the movie is a crazy ride with laughs and thrills aplenty.
The movie isn’t fantastic, but it is a lot of fun and Chris Pratt gives some nice levity to the whole affair. The movie is a lot more violent than I was expecting and even though it has a PG-13 rating, I’d say the violence is much closer to an R rating, but I’m not the MPAA.

T.G.I.F.
Complete series of “Family Matters,” “Full House,” “Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper,” “Perfect Strangers,” “Step By Step.”
Remember T.G.I.F.? Well, now any night can be Friday night.
The complete series of some of your favorite bad shows from the crazy time in the 80s and 90s are headed to Hulu for you to waste hours of your free time.

“Lars and the Real Girl"
We’ve got a lot of stuff from 2007 on this list.
The odd and quirky “Lars and the Real Girl” stars Ryan Gosling as a peculiar introvert who introduces his friends and family to his new girlfriend, a life-sized doll.
The movie is all sorts of strange, but it packs a lot of heart and is a different take on the romantic comedy.
