CASTLE DALE, Emery County — A woman’s body was found Wednesday on a remote dirt road near the Mussentuchit Sand Dune, according to the Emery County Sheriff’s Office.
The body was identified as Marlene Clark, 82, a resident of Oregon. Detectives did not find any signs of foul play at the site, the sheriff’s office said in a Thursday news release.
Authorities were still investigating Clark’s cause of death as of Thursday evening, the release said.
Near Clark’s body were plastic bags containing food, water, a cell phone, several forms of ID, credit cards and cash.
Detectives on the scene also found a set of vehicle keys and later located a vehicle more than five miles from where Clark’s body was discovered.
It appeared that the vehicle had become stuck in a wash after flash flooding had taken place in the area. Several sections of the road also were washed out.
A German man who was on his way to the Mussentuchit Sand Dune discovered the body on the road. He drove about 25 miles to the nearest town to report his discovery, the sheriff’s office said.
