EGO'S PLANET — The highly anticipated "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is now in theaters and you're probably wondering if it's fun, exciting, hilarious and an overall blasted good time at the theater.

I'm not here for that — that's why we have Dave Clyde and his review. But I can say the answer to the above questions is quite simply, yes. My article is mainly to give you an idea of what you can expect from a content perspective in the new Marvel movie.

This is not an article to tell you if you should or shouldn't take your kids to go see "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," or even if you should go see it. This article is just here to give you a heads up so you can make an educated decision about heading to the theater.

Sexiness

This section is very much along the lines of the first "Guardians of the Galaxy." I don't think they pushed it any further, necessarily, but there are a couple of moments that caught me off guard. One of which includes a saloon that has many robots designed to look like women who appear to serve one purpose (and that is not to bring you a drink.) It is not specific and the movie never tells you these are basically prostitute robots, but it's pretty clear that's what they're going for. Nothing explicit is shown, but the overtones are pretty strong.

Aside from that, there are some adult jokes much like in the first film and the gratuitous shot of Chris Pratt shirtless. The shirtless hero is a staple of Marvel's, at this point.

There are obvious hints of romance and desire between characters, but it's all pretty standard stuff.

Violence

This shouldn't come as a surprise, but "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is violent. A lot of people are getting killed, and some of it is a bit more graphic than I remember the first movie portraying. There isn't any blood, but we do see a man float out into space and slowly die as his face swells and the elements kill him. There is also a prolonged scene that is pretty incredible to watch, but literally hundreds of people die in a not-so-gentle way.

If you are like me, you’ve been waiting for the release of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" since about 1 minute after the closing credits in the first "Guardians of the Galaxy" back in 2014.

Overall, the violence and gore are basically like the first film, but turned up just a notch.

Language

The first time I saw "Guardians of the Galaxy," I was a bit surprised by the coarse language in the film. It fit the characters that were created, but I was still caught off guard by some of what was said. The same can be said about "Vol. 2."

There isn't a lot of cursing per se, but more than most Marvel movies you'll see. I do not believe the language should have earned the film more than its PG-13 rating, but at the end of the day, the rating is very fair when it comes to language.

Overall tone

The tone of a movie says a lot about how certain audiences will react to it, and "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" has a playful but dark one.

The movie is a lot of fun and it's hard not to smile as everything plays out on screen, but I think the overall feel was a bit darker than the first film and it was palpable at times. With "Guardians of the Galaxy," Marvel pushed the envelope a bit, and I think they've pushed ever-so-slightly more this time around.

Conclusion

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is rated PG-13 for sequences of sci-fi action and violence, language and brief suggestive content.

The movie definitely earns the rating, but I don't think it was borderline R. However, some may see it that way when it comes to language, tone and violence.

It's hard to give an age appropriateness level on the film, considering I don't know you or your children and how they handle certain things, but 14 or 15 and above seems to be a safe range.
