SALT LAKE CITY — One man was critically injured and the I-215 off-ramp to California Avenue closed for more than three hours as a result of a rollover crash Monday morning.
A northbound SUV driven by a man in his early 20s drifted off I-215 west at 1500 South around 4 a.m. The driver overcorrected and the vehicle rolled, according to Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Zach Randall. The SUV then hit an overhead sign support and the driver was ejected from the vehicle.
He was flown by medical helicopter to an area hospital in critical condition, Randall said.
Investigators believe the man was not wearing a seatbelt. Troopers are still investigating the cause of the crash and said it is still too early to determine what caused the driver to veer off the road.
The off-ramp was closed but reopened around 7:30 a.m., according to the KSL Traffic Center.
