ZION NATIONAL PARK — A hiker was found dead in Zion National Park early Friday morning.

A 45-year-old man was discovered at the bottom of Refrigerator Canyon along the West Rim Trail with injuries that indicated he fell from a high ledge, possibly the Angels Landing trail, according to investigators.

Fellow visitors hiking the West Rim Trail found his body around 8:20 a.m. and called 911.

Park law enforcement responded to the call, and a search and rescue team recovered the man's body. Authorities report that the body had visible signs of trauma.

“We are extremely saddened by this incident and are concerned with everyone’s safety in the park,” said Jeff Bradybaugh, superintendent at Zion National Park in a news release.

The West Rim Trail was closed from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident, and the victim has not yet been identified, pending family notification.

More information will be released as it is received.
